A court in San Martin de Porres ordered 12 months of preventive detention for three foreign suspects accused of extorting Translima bus drivers. The Judicial Power issued the measure at the request of the Third Desk of the Second Provincial Corporate Criminal Prosecution Office of Northern Lima.
The suspects, identified by their initials as 40-year-old L. R., 25-year-old R. M., and 24-year-old J. S., face charges of extortion, illegal firearm possession, possession of explosives, and membership in a criminal gang. Investigators said the men demanded daily payments of 75 soles from drivers to allow them to operate on Bertello Avenue.
Investigation and motorcycle pursuit
The case began with a police complaint filed on July 19, 2026, by a driver. The complaint stated that the criminal gang known as Los Conquistadores Reales was extorting Translima drivers for 75 soles a day to operate in the district.
The complainant reported that two men, identified as R. M. and J. S., chased him on a motorcycle in the Oquendo area while he was working his route. The two suspects intercepted him, showed their firearms, and pressured him and his co-workers to pay the money demanded by the criminal organization.
Police raid and seized evidence
Following the report, National Police of Peru officers located the gang's suspected base of operations at a property in the Las Casuarinas neighborhood. Inside the location, police found a loaded revolver, explosive devices, and a mobile phone line used to extort the drivers.
Officers arrested the three suspects at the property and transferred them to the police station. To secure the 12-month preventive detention order, prosecutors presented intervention records, statements from protected witnesses, phone data analysis, forensic ballistics tests, and gunshot residue results.
