Thomas Markle Sr, the father of Meghan Markle, has been arrested in Florida by federal law enforcement officers on suspicion of possessing child pornography.
Kash Patel, the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, confirmed the detention of the 82-year-old in a statement published on the United States Department of Justice website. Patel said the FBI and its partner agencies arrested Markle after a bureau investigation established that he was in possession of materials containing child sexual abuse images.
According to investigators, the 82-year-old father-in-law of Prince Harry was arrested in Florida. Markle was scheduled to appear in a federal courtroom on November 6 to be formally charged by prosecutors. If found guilty of the charges, he could face a prison sentence of up to 20 years under federal law.

The arrest comes after earlier reports indicated that Meghan Markle's father had relocated to a care home for people suffering from dementia amid allegations of pedophilia and possessing child pornography. Legal experts suspect that he moved into the residential facility in an attempt to hinder the criminal investigation and avoid prosecution.
