TF1info Outlines Top Streaming Picks for August Weekend

On Friday, August 7, 2026, French news service TF1info released its weekly selection of top new streaming titles, highlighting a broad mix of coming-of-age dramas, high-stakes thrillers, and returning comedy hits across major digital platforms. The curated lineup features original series debuts and new season premieres on Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, Apple TV, Paramount+, and TF1+ designed for weekend viewing.

The weekly recommendations focus on productions driven by family secrets, romantic triangles, and intense tactical action. Headlining the updates are the return of the Emmy Award winning comedy series Ted Lasso after a three-year wait, the third season of espionage thriller Lioness, and fresh adaptations of popular literary works.

Teen Drama Sterling Point Launches on Prime Video

On Prime Video, eight episodes of the teen drama Sterling Point present a story centered on eighteen-year-old Annie. As she approaches her eighteenth birthday, her meticulously planned future falls apart when she learns of the death of a grandfather she had never known.

Determined to explore her roots, the teenager leaves New York for Sterling Point, a small Canadian island she has inherited. Upon arrival, she encounters unsuspected family secrets. Although built on a traditional coming-of-age narrative, the series features writing and direction by actress Megan Park, who previously directed the film My Old Ass on Prime Video. The project is produced by Oscar-nominated actress Margot Robbie alongside the original creative team behind the hit teen drama Gossip Girl.

Ryan Murphy Adapts Bret Easton Ellis Novel The Shards

Disney+ has launched The Shards, a retro thriller adapted from the novel by Bret Easton Ellis and developed in collaboration with television producer Ryan Murphy. Set in Los Angeles in 1981, the storyline follows a group of wealthy high school seniors gripped by paranoia when a serial killer begins targeting teenagers on the first day of their final school year. Suspicion intensifies with the concurrent arrival of a new student, raising questions about whether the newcomer is connected to the murders.

The series, which carries an under-16 age restriction rating, offers an eighties visual aesthetic that pays homage to classic slasher films like Scream and high school dramas such as Beverly Hills, 90210. The cast features Kaia Gerber, the daughter of model Cindy Crawford, and Homer Gere, the son of actor Richard Gere. Two episodes are available immediately, with subsequent installments arriving every Thursday through September 10.

Ted Lasso Returns to Apple TV with Women's Football Shift

Apple TV has premiered the long-awaited fourth chapter of Ted Lasso, marking the comedy's return following a three-year hiatus. Created by and starring Jason Sudeikis as the optimistic American football coach, the multi-Emmy Award winning series introduces a narrative shift as Lasso takes charge of the English club's women's football team after previously leading the men's squad to success in the Premier League, the top tier of English football.

The narrative retains its focus on humor and benevolence as the team navigates the transition. Apple TV is releasing one new episode every Wednesday through October 7, while all episodes from seasons one through three remain available on the service.

French Action Series GIGN Tops Netflix Streaming Charts

On Netflix, the French action series GIGN has become the most-watched show on the platform following strong viewer word-of-mouth after a quiet mid-summer launch. The plot follows David, an operative haunted by the death of a colleague during a mission. As David considers leaving the tactical unit, his deceased friend's son enlists in the group. A sudden attack on the unit headquarters forces David to remain and investigate the event.

Directed by Julien Leclercq, who directed the tactical action film The Assault sixteen years ago, the six-episode series stars Tomer Sisley as the lead action hero. Produced with official support from the actual GIGN special operations unit, the elite tactical force of the French National Gendarmerie, the project precedes Sisley's upcoming role alongside Fauve Hautot in La Cible on TF1. Sisley is also known for starring in the Largo Winch film franchise.

Nicole Kidman and Zoe Saldaña Return in Lioness Season Three

Paramount+ has rolled out the third season of the espionage thriller Lioness, created by Taylor Sheridan. The new season continues to focus on female intelligence operatives working for the CIA. Reprising her role, Australian actress Nicole Kidman stated that current developments mark the beginning of wider fights rather than the conclusion of a battle.

Oscar winner Zoe Saldaña also returns as Joe, an operative tasked with recruiting female agents to neutralize terrorist threats. Saldaña praised Sheridan's writing, noting that the prolific creator, also known for series like Yellowstone starring Kevin Costner and Tulsa King starring Sylvester Stallone, consistently surprises the cast each season with the challenges he creates for her forty-eight-year-old character. Paramount+ is dropping one episode every Sunday, with seasons one and two available in full.

My Life with the Walter Boys Expands for New Season

Netflix has released ten episodes of My Life with the Walter Boys, continuing the romantic saga centered on teenager Jackie. Following a second season cliffhanger where Jackie confessed her feelings to Cole while Alex overheard her in secret, the third season introduces a new dynamic to the small town of Silver Falls with the unexpected arrival of a former friend from New York.

The teen romance series maintains its central love triangle tearing Jackie's heart between the two Walter brothers. Production has also officially commenced on a fourth season of the show.

Police Comedy Sirènes Pairs Unlikely Duo on TF1+

Streaming service TF1+ has added the French comedy series Sirènes, which pairs two contrasting police officers in the city of Nice on the French Riviera. The story follows rebellious police captain Alison Flesh, who is forced to partner with Leïla Balani, a criminology expert who lacks practical field skills, as they track down a serial killer.

The comedic series relies on the onscreen dynamic between lead actresses Alice Pol and Shirine Boutella as they navigate their contrasting investigative approaches.
