Technology columnist Jean-Baptiste Nicolet showcased a selection of portable tools designed to boost efficiency for remote workers on the move, speaking during a broadcast of French morning television show Bonjour! La Matinale TF1.
Appearing on the morning show on French commercial network TF1, Nicolet highlighted affordable solutions for people who regularly work outside their primary office, such as on trains or airplanes, where standard desktop setups like dual monitors, external mice, and full keyboards are often unavailable.
Among the items featured was a foldable wireless mouse designed to collapse small enough to fit inside a trouser pocket. Nicolet explained that despite its miniature design, the device unfolds into a functional full-sized mouse suitable for desk use on the go, offering up to one month of battery life for 69 euros.
To accompany the mouse, Nicolet recommended carrying a portable wireless keyboard. He noted that several practical models are available on the market, including versions that fold closed to save space. He pointed out that one specific model features a small protective flap that prevents dust from entering between the keys when stored inside a bag, allowing users to set up on any table and work without hassle for the same price of 69 euros.
Turning Old Tablets into Second Screens
Addressing the frustration of working without a secondary display away from home or the office, Nicolet advised remote workers to search their cupboards for unused older tablets. He demonstrated that users with an Apple laptop can easily convert an iPad into a secondary monitor.
Nicolet said the connection required no complex setup, explaining that placing the tablet alongside the computer allows users to move their cursor off the left edge of the laptop screen and directly onto the tablet interface. He added that the laptop keyboard can then be used to manage applications running on the secondary tablet display.
In addition to using tablets as external screens, Nicolet noted that remote workers could also use an iPhone camera as a high-quality webcam. However, he cautioned that these multi-device features only work when all hardware belongs to the same technological ecosystem.
