INEI: closing of companies grew 14.1% in the first quarter of 2023

In the first quarter of 2023, 10,617 companies were deregistered, which meant an increase of 14.1% compared to what was registered in the same period of 2022, according to the latest report on Business Demography in Peru from the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics. (INEI).

The most affected sector was construction, where the figure rose by 77.1%, followed by information and communications (46.7%) and accommodation activities (38.2%). It also highlighted agriculture, livestock and fishing with a rate of 27.5%.

At the regional level, casualties increased in the departments of Ucayali (67.3%), Loreto (55.2%) and Ica (54.5%), mostly. While it fell in Puno (-30.1%), Moquegua (-18.5%), Arequipa (-5.0%) and Pasco (-1.8%).

Factors and affected

Active companies grew 5.3%

As of March 31 of this year, the number of active companies registered in the Central Directory of Companies and Establishments amounted to 3 million 190,661 units.

This figure is 5.3% higher compared to the same period of the previous year, said the INEI.
