Greek composer Stamatis Spanoudakis has suffered a mild stroke, forcing the postponement of his scheduled concert in the town of Missolonghi.
The concert had been scheduled to take place this coming Saturday. Spanoudakis revealed his health setback in a message to fans, explaining that the cerebrovascular event caused a minor physical problem that has left his right hand temporarily incapacitated.
Addressing those who were planning to attend the event, an emotional Spanoudakis offered his sincere apologies to his audience and his performing musicians. He stated that he felt deeply saddened to let down listeners who were traveling purely out of love for his music, as well as the ensemble of artists who had been preparing alongside him for a long period.
The composer explained that he cannot touch any musical instruments for at least two months while he undergoes further medical testing to prevent any potential future complications. He added that he must prioritize his health, noting that despite the hand impairment, the rest of his face and body remain entirely unaffected, though he admitted to briefly stumbling over his words during his statement.
Two years of preparation in Missolonghi
Spanoudakis emphasized his deep personal attachment to the postponed concert, sharing that he had spent two years working on the musical composition and organization for the Missolonghi event. He noted that he had no complaints against anyone involved in the project, but suggested that the stress, constant coordination, and administrative demands he personally handled had eventually taken a physical toll on his body.
Missolonghi, officially known as the Sacred City of Missolonghi, is a historic town in western Greece renowned for its cultural heritage and role in Greek history. Spanoudakis is a prominent Greek composer celebrated for his work blending traditional Greek music with classical instruments and spiritual themes.

Despite the sudden illness, Spanoudakis expressed gratitude to God that his overall health was stable and stressed that he does not let sickness discourage him, having overcome various health challenges in the past. He described the event as a divine intervention, interpreting the setback as a clear signal to slow down, stay home, and concentrate on composing new music.
He reassured fans that his decision to cancel was not a promotional stunt or a trick, acknowledging the disruption caused to attendees who had already booked hotel rooms in Missolonghi. He concluded his address by sending his love and kisses to his supporters, expressing hope that he will return to the stage once his recovery allows.
