He practically didn’t leave the cinema. He managed to break the Guinness record for the number of films watched

Zach Swope from Pennsylvania has achieved something that many of us would find difficult to achieve. During the year, he watched a record number of films in cinemas – some even several times. All this in order to break the Guinness record of 715 films in a year so far. The new result is truly impressive, because the next person who takes up this challenge will really have to stay away from the cinema!

The first in the number of films seen in the cinema per year belonged to Vincent Krohn. In 2018, he watched as many as 715 films. Zach Swope from Pennsylvania started the challenge in July 2022 by watching the animated film “Minions: The Rise of December.” Less than a year later, he managed to break the previous record by watching “Spider-Man: Through the Multiverse.” Zach was so determined that he wasn’t going to stop at just breaking the record. He continued watching until he finally completed the challenge with 777 movie viewings.

He watched 777 films in a year. How did he do it?

The American managed to break the record by working full-time 5 days a week. He postponed the vast majority of viewings until the weekend – then he watched about 13-14 films. He usually went to the cinema three times a week. Zach usually chose the films that were the shortest – this had its advantages, because the American had to follow strict rules.

First of all, it was to be constantly monitored by employees who checked whether it violated the rules for breaking the Guinness record. Zach couldn’t sleep, look at his phone, or eat or drink during the sessions. He has seen some films several or even a dozen times. It was undoubtedly his favorite movie – he watched it 47 times. The worst rating was for a horror film called “The Devil Conspiracy”, about which he said: “I would rather forget about it.”

Zach Swope wanted his challenge to be guided by a specific idea: I have attempted suicide and also lost loved ones to suicide – by breaking the Guinness Record, Zach Swope wanted to draw attention to an important mental health problem.
