The meeting was held in Denver and ended with a score of 3:2 in favor of Colorado. One of the goals of the capital team was scored by Russian striker Alexander Ovechkin. This game was his first since the break due to injury. Thus, the striker scored the 447th goal in away league matches and broke the record of Canadian Wayne Gretzky for this indicator.

With one more goal, the Russian striker closed the gap on the Canadian in the race for the title of the best NHL sniper.

Earlier Tuesday, January 24, it became known that Ovechkin returned to training on the ice after a lower body injury. Due to the injury, which is said to be of a minor nature, the striker missed the game against the Vegas Golden Knights.

Ovechkin now has 811 goals in the NHL. He is second on the league’s all-time leading scorers list, 83 goals behind Gretzky.

Ovechkin has been with the Capitals since 2005. He won the Stanley Cup with the club in 2018.
