Spain Imserso senior travel dates and prices confirmed

The Ministry of Social Rights, Consumption and Agenda 2030 has confirmed the official booking calendar and prices for Spain's 2026-2027 Imserso senior travel season, which will offer a total of 879,213 places.

Sales for the upcoming social tourism campaign will start on September 14 and September 16, with booking dates staggered according to each traveler's region of residence and their priority status within the program.

Imserso, officially the Institute for Senior Citizens and Social Services, is the Spanish government agency responsible for managing subsidized social tourism. The long-running program provides affordable holidays for pensioners across Spain, promoting senior well-being while supporting employment in the tourism sector during off-peak months.

Regional booking calendar

According to the ministry, residents of Andalusia, Aragon, Castile and Leon, Extremadura, Galicia, Madrid, Melilla, Navarre, and La Rioja will be the first eligible to book. Preferential accredited users in these regions can begin reserving trips on September 14, while non-preferential applicants can book starting September 15.

Travelers residing in the remaining territories, including Asturias, Catalonia, Castile-La Mancha, the Valencian Community, Ceuta, the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands, Cantabria, Murcia, and the Basque Country, will follow two days later. Preferential accredited users in this second group can secure bookings on September 16, followed by non-preferential applicants on September 17.

Imserso separates applicants into preferential and non-preferential categories based on an internal points system. The scoring mechanism evaluates applicants on their age, level of disability, economic situation, participation in previous seasons, and status as a recognized large family. High-scoring applicants obtain preferential status and priority access to available holiday destinations, while non-preferential users choose from the remaining unreserved slots.

Quota allocations and booking methods

To stagger demand and prevent central reservation systems from crashing, each province receives an initial quota of trips to each destination proportional to its population of residents aged 65 and older. During the first days of sales, from September 14 to September 18, applicants are restricted to booking trips allocated exclusively to their home province's quota.

Starting September 19, the booking platform will open remaining unallocated places from any province to applicants nationwide. Ministry officials confirmed that the commercialisation process will then remain active throughout the entire 2026-2027 season.

Participation requires prior accreditation and a unique four-digit access key issued directly by Imserso. The agency has commenced sending 2.93 million notification letters to the 4.6 million individuals accredited for the program. Each letter specifies the recipient's assigned booking start date and supplies their renewed four-digit key.

Bookings can be made in person at accredited travel agencies upon presentation of a national identity card, known as a DNI. Alternatively, reservations can be completed online through the official contractor websites. Mainland coast and getaway packages are managed via www.turismosocial.com, while island coast trips are processed through www.mundicolor.es, with both websites requiring the four-digit accreditation key.

Pricing tiers and financial assistance

Prices for the 2026-2027 season range from 132.91 euros for the lowest-cost option to 564.72 euros for the most expensive package. The cheapest rate covers four-day, three-night getaway breaks to provincial capitals during low season. The highest rate applies to 10-day, 9-night stays in the Canary Islands with transport included during peak high-season months in December, January, and February.

Trips booked during peak high-season periods carry a 100-euro surcharge compared to the same holiday during low season. An additional fee of 100 euros is also charged for second and subsequent trips booked by the same traveler.

A special flat rate of 50 euros is set aside for 7,447 places intended for low-income seniors. This reduced rate applies to individuals receiving benefits equal to or lower than non-contributory Social Security invalidity or retirement pensions, with Imserso funding the remaining cost regardless of the destination.

Package distribution and pet allowances

The 2026-2027 campaign maintains the overall structure and capacity of the previous season. Of the 879,213 total available places, 440,284 are designated for mainland coastal tourism, 228,142 for island coastal destinations, and 210,787 for cultural and nature getaway breaks.

Winning contractor companies must distribute 36 percent of their allocated places proportionally across each month of the campaign to prevent concentrating bookings into short timeframes. Additionally, the program retains pet-friendly options for mainland and island coastal packages. Contractors must reserve 2 percent of places in Lots 1 and 2 for seniors traveling with pets weighing up to 10 kilograms, including the carrier.
