South Pelion Wildfire Triggers 112 Alert in Pao Community

A fire broke out on Tuesday evening in an agricultural and forest area in Pao, within the Municipality of South Pelion. Firefighters and emergency crews responded on the ground and from the air to extinguish the blaze.

Forty firefighters, two foot teams from the 10th Special Forestry Operations Unit (EMODE), volunteers, and 10 vehicles joined the operation. Three aircraft and one helicopter provided aerial support, while the Municipality of South Pelion assisted with water tankers.

Emergency Alert and Investigation

Authorities sent an emergency message through the 112 service at 20:07 to inform people located in the broader area of the fire. Officials noted that the region was under a Category 3 high fire risk on Tuesday.

The Magnesia Arson Crime Investigation Unit mobilized to investigate what caused the fire, according to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (APE-MPE).
