Colombian singer Shakira will perform up to 12 record-breaking concerts in Madrid starting September 18, 2026, as part of an extensive venue residency in the Spanish capital.
The performances will take place at the Estadio Shakira, a specially designed temporary venue located in the Villaverde district of southern Madrid.
The residency will run across four consecutive weekends on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays through September and October.
The venue space in Villaverde is already known for hosting major annual Spanish music festivals, including Mad Cool and the Coca-Cola Music Experience.
Madrid's 2026 event lineup also features a visit from Pope Francis, concerts by Puerto Rican singer Bad Bunny, and the upcoming Formula One Spanish Grand Prix. Local organizers expect September to be one of the most intense entertainment months in the city's recent memory.
Venue design and spectator facilities
Crews have spent weeks constructing temporary grandstands at the site that give the complex the feel of a first-division football stadium. The arena floor features artificial turf along with a large VIP area located in front of the main stage.
Concert promoter Live Nation introduced the residency model for the venue following a similar multi-date residency run by Bad Bunny earlier in the year.
Organizers designed the space to allow attendees to arrive in the morning and remain throughout the day. Facilities will include dining areas operated by prestigious chefs, pre-show entertainment, retail shops, and daytime activities.
Guest artists and cultural programming
Live Nation guaranteed that each performance will feature a distinct lineup with guest artists and unannounced surprises, ensuring no two show dates are identical.
The site will also host a cultural program inspired by Barranquilla, the Caribbean port city in Colombia where Shakira was born. The programming will showcase traditional music, dance, and celebrations from the region.
Choreographer and performing artist Blanca Li was appointed to direct the Barranquilla-inspired cultural festivities throughout the venue grounds.
City selection and artist involvement
Pino Sagliocco, the president of Live Nation, explained that Madrid was chosen for the residency because the city has a growing Latin identity and serves as a primary bridge to Latin America. Sagliocco noted that Barcelona was also considered, but organizers chose Madrid because it possessed the space needed to build the full stadium infrastructure.
Sagliocco said that the project had only just begun and would feature changing content so returning visitors would encounter new experiences on subsequent dates.
Sagliocco added that Shakira was personally involved in every detail of the event, choosing and deciding all production elements. Assembly work is entering its final stage as crews complete the remaining site structures before the residency opens.
