Samsung Electronics has hired two artificial intelligence specialists to integrate machine learning technology across its entire semiconductor manufacturing lifecycle in South Korea, spanning chip design, process development and factory production.
Deep learning and computer vision expert Han Bo-hyung will focus on creating artificial intelligence models for semiconductor research and development. Data engineering specialist Hahn Tai-rin will lead efforts to prepare structured data suitable for direct processing by automated AI systems.
Han serves as a professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Seoul National University, South Korea's flagship public research institution. According to a report by South Korean media outlet Maeil Business on July 23, the university approved a joint arrangement allowing Han to split his time equally, spending six months at the university and six months working within Samsung's semiconductor division.
Hahn joins the technology giant with an extensive background in data architecture, having previously worked as a senior data engineering manager at Meta, the US parent company of Facebook and Instagram. He also served as a senior software developer at tech firm Persona.

Industrial AI integration
Samsung views the new hires as part of a broader corporate initiative to embed artificial intelligence into microchip design, process engineering and fab manufacturing. The company noted that dividing responsibilities between model creation and data preparation addresses two interconnected components of industrial AI, as predictive models require clean, machine-readable datasets to optimize designs, analyze processes and forecast production results.
The company stated that it plans to continue recruiting AI and data engineering talent while distributing technical expertise across its various operational divisions.
Performance metrics and deployment timelines
Samsung has not yet disclosed specific details regarding future model architectures, dataset parameters, deployment schedules or performance metrics. The company explained that the actual impact of these AI systems on chip development cycles, process stability and manufacturing defect rates remains to be confirmed empirically during production testing.
