The Russian Zanoza-10 FPV drone has been upgraded with artificial intelligence to automatically lock onto targets, developer Zanoza Drones reported.

Russian state news agency TASS reported that the modernization equips the unmanned aerial vehicle with automated target homing on the final section of its flight trajectory.



According to Zanoza Drones, the artificial intelligence integration significantly increases strike accuracy, even under conditions of complete video signal loss or strong interference. The company added that the technology allows a manifold increase in combat effectiveness while reducing the operational workload on the pilot.

First-person view, or FPV, drones are small unmanned aerial vehicles controlled remotely by pilots using live video streams transmitted from front-facing cameras. In military operations, these aircraft are commonly deployed as precision loitering munitions to attack armored vehicles, defensive positions, and military hardware. However, electronic warfare units frequently attempt to neutralize incoming drones by jamming the radio frequencies used for control signals and video transmission.

Terminal guidance systems address this vulnerability by using onboard computer vision algorithms. Once a pilot identifies a target and initiates the attack, the software locks onto the visual signature of the objective. If radio interference severs the connection between the operator and the aircraft during its final approach, the automated control system continues steering the drone to complete the strike.

Deployment Across Conflict Zones

In October, TASS cited a representative of the Groza group of companies reporting that the Russian Zanoza cable-laying drone had begun operational deployment across all directions of the special military operation, Russia's official term for its military campaign in Ukraine.

The same source from the Groza group told TASS in October that the target strike effectiveness of the Zanoza FPV drone controlled by the Leska fiber-optic cable exceeded 80 percent in the combat zone. Fiber-optic control systems utilize a physical glass thread that unspools behind the aircraft during flight. Because data travels through glass lines rather than open airwaves, tethered drones remain immune to radio frequency jamming.

TASS is a state-owned Russian news agency headquartered in Moscow that serves as an official channel for domestic defense engineering and military updates.
