A 17-year-old local resident has been detained in Russia's Ryazan Oblast after allegedly setting fire to a railway battery cabinet in a suspected terrorist act.
The regional department of the Investigative Committee of Russia confirmed that the young suspect has been formally charged under Article 205 of the Russian Criminal Code, which prosecutes acts of terrorism.
According to state investigators, the incident took place on August 27 along a stretch of track between railway stations. The teenager reportedly bought a flammable liquid after receiving threats from an unidentified handler via a messaging application. He then traveled to the rail line, set the battery cabinet on fire, and fled the scene.
Critical rail infrastructure
Railway battery cabinets house power units and electronic circuitry that control automated signaling, track switches, and communication systems along train routes. Disruption to these components can force train stoppages and create safety hazards across regional rail networks.

Investigators from the Investigative Committee detained the teenager in a joint security operation conducted alongside officers from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Federal Security Service.
