Russian retail operator AO Tander, the main operating subsidiary of Public Joint Stock Company Magnit, is launching a new line of contraceptives under its own private label brand called Iron Bolt.
The new condoms will begin selling across the company's Magnit Pharmacy network in September, according to a report by the Russian business newspaper Vedomosti.

AO Tander has submitted a formal application to Rospatent, the Russian government agency responsible for intellectual property and trademark registrations, to secure the Iron Bolt brand name. The initial product range will comprise five distinct items, all targeted at the middle price segment of the consumer market.
Investment and price positioning
Market experts consulted by Vedomosti estimated that the initial financial investment needed to launch the new contraceptive line will amount to several tens of millions of rubles.
Mikhail Burmistrov, chief executive of the market analytics firm Infoline-Analytika, said the choice of market positioning was justified. He noted that Iron Bolt should be priced somewhat cheaper than products from market leaders such as Durex and Contex, but not priced so low that the discount frightens off prospective buyers.
Store expansion and import costs
Magnit is one of the largest retail operators and supermarket chains in Russia, running thousands of grocery stores, convenience outlets, and specialized drugstores nationwide. Its key subsidiary, AO Tander, manages store operations, logistics, and private label merchandise development across the group's retail brands.
The move into private label contraceptives follows a period of sharp price increases for personal care products in Russia earlier this year. Reports in the spring noted that retail condom prices in the domestic market had risen significantly, doubling the nation's overall inflation rate as supply chain costs escalated.
Those price increases developed amid rising operational costs caused by shipping disruptions following the blockage of the Strait of Hormuz, a major international maritime transit route for global trade. The launch of Iron Bolt will expand Magnit Pharmacy's existing private label portfolio as the retail group increases its footprint in health and personal care sales.
