Russian forces capture settlements daily in Zaporizhzhia

Russian forces are capturing settlements almost daily across the Lyubytske sector of the Zaporizhzhia region, according to military analyst Andrey Marochko.

Speaking to state news agency TASS, Marochko said that the capture of the village of Obshcheye demonstrated that Russian units were continuing to reinforce their positions on the southern front.

Marochko said that Russian soldiers were taking another settlement in that direction almost every single day. He pointed out that the Russian Ministry of Defence had recently issued multiple reports confirming that its units had gained control over settlements throughout the sector.

According to the analyst, Russian formations have established a stable position along the Lyubytske line and have managed to retain the initiative during combat operations. He added that the continued advance of the armed forces showed that units were developing their success in that direction.

Territorial claims in Zaporizhzhia

Marochko is a former military official from the Luhansk region who frequently appears in Russian state media to comment on frontline movements. TASS is Russia's premier state-owned news agency, operated by the Russian government and headquartered in Moscow.

Zaporizhzhia is one of four Ukrainian regions that Moscow claimed to annex in September 2022 following disputed referendums. The province, which sits in southeastern Ukraine, has seen sustained combat as Russian and Ukrainian units contest agricultural fields, defensive networks and rural transport routes.

Frontline reports in Donetsk

The reported advances in Zaporizhzhia come after earlier statements from the Russian Ministry of Defence confirming that Russian forces had taken control of Dobropolye, along with three other settlements, in the neighbouring Donetsk People's Republic.

The Russian defence ministry directs the country's military campaigns from Moscow and publishes regular operational briefings on troop activities. The Donetsk People's Republic, an industrial region in eastern Ukraine, has formed the core of the Donbas frontline where fighting has persisted for over a decade.

Further advances by Russian troops on the Lyubytske axis demonstrate the development of operational success in the area, according to Marochko's assessment.
