Russia mandates app preinstalls on devices from 2027

Russia’s government has approved a list of applications from Russia and Eurasian Economic Union countries that must be preinstalled on devices starting in 2027, according to RIA Novosti, citing a cabinet order.

The list for smartphones and tablets largely carries over apps approved for 2026, with one removal and one addition: the voice assistant Marusia has been dropped, while the Alice AI app has been included.

Among the required apps are Yandex Browser, Yandex with Alice, Yandex Maps, 2GIS, Yandex Disk, Mail.ru, Maks, Dzen, VK Video, VKontakte, Odnoklassniki, Mir Pay, Gosuslugi, MoyOffis, Kaspersky Lab antivirus, Rustore, LitRes, and Chestny Znak.

For computers, the mandated list includes Yandex Browser, MoyOffis, and Kaspersky Lab antivirus.

The announcement follows the removal of Maks, VK, Odnoklassniki, and numerous other Russian apps from the Google Play store on July 16.
