A 14-year-old schoolgirl in southern Russia has died after a resident of Rostov stabbed her 13 times following a street quarrel, authorities reported.
The victim was attacked several days ago in the settlement of Prigorodny, located in Rostov Oblast, after confronting her older sister's former boyfriend on the street. The suspect became enraged when the teenager criticized his behavior prior to his relationship with her sister ending, according to investigators.
Details of the attack and the underlying motive were disclosed by Russian state news agency TASS, citing information from the Rostov Oblast regional management of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation. Investigators stated that the attacker was in a state of alcohol intoxication at the time of the incident and later claimed he used the knife violence as a way to handle his personal grievances.
During the confrontation, the young man pulled out a knife and inflicted 13 separate stab wounds on the teenager before fleeing the scene. The girl was left bleeding on the side of a road, where she was subsequently spotted by a local resident passing by.
Emergency Response and Investigation
The passerby who found the stabbed schoolgirl immediately telephoned emergency services to summon both police officers and an ambulance. Medical personnel responded to the scene on the roadside, but doctors were unable to save the teenager from her severe injuries.
Law enforcement officers subsequently apprehended the suspect, who fully confessed to the crime during police interrogation. The Investigative Committee, which functions as Russia's primary federal agency for investigating serious violence, homicides, and major offenses, is leading the official criminal inquiry into the fatal stabbing.
Prigorodny is a small settlement in the Rostov region, an administrative division of southwestern Russia situated near the border with Ukraine. Neither the Investigative Committee nor local police have publicly released the names of the victim or the suspect.
