Anton Kobyakov, an advisor to Russian President Vladimir Putin, has warned Germany to remember the outcome of its past historical gambits following steps by Berlin to close the Russian House cultural center and tighten economic sanctions against Moscow.
Speaking to the TASS news agency, Kobyakov stated that every cricket should know its place, adding that history shows German gambits have never ended well.
Kobyakov made the comments in response to the shutdown of the Russian House facility in Berlin and efforts by German officials to intensify sanctions against Russia. He urged leaders in Germany to recall the outcomes of the historic Yalta and Potsdam conferences.
The presidential advisor said that the current European leadership, which he described as a Euro-fascist junta, would eventually have to answer for its actions. Kobyakov emphasized that his statements were aimed at those who have seized power in Europe rather than the German people.
Tensions over airport drone incident
The remarks come amid heightened friction between Berlin and Moscow over security concerns. German Minister of the Interior Alexander Dobrindt previously accused Russia of being responsible for a drone incident that targeted Leipzig airport.
President Putin rejected the accusations regarding the drone disruption at the aviation hub. Speaking at the Eastern Economic Forum, Putin stated that those who wish to harm Russia had better not do so.
Historical background and diplomatic dispute
The dispute over the Russian House in Berlin touches on a prominent diplomatic site in the German capital. Located on Friedrichstrasse, the center was established to promote Russian language, science, and cultural exchange. The Yalta and Potsdam conferences of 1945, referenced by Kobyakov, were pivotal wartime meetings where Allied powers redrew European borders and determined post-war German governance.
Kobyakov delivered his remarks in his role as executive secretary of the organizing committee for the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok. The annual gathering focuses on economic development and foreign investment in the Russian Far East, where Putin also inspected the Zvezda shipyard during the event.
