Peru's Chamber of Deputies opened the installation session of its Parliamentary Ethics Committee on Monday, August 10, 2026, for the 2026-2027 annual legislative period. The meeting began at 11:00 a.m. in the Fabiola Salazar room inside the Víctor Raúl Haya de la Torre building, according to Congress's official agenda.
The session was suspended and will resume Tuesday at 11:00 a.m., when the committee is set to elect its board of directors, made up of a president, vice president and secretary.
Committee members
The full Chamber of Deputies had previously approved the committee's composition. Its members are Mery Infantes of Fuerza Popular, Jessica Sadith Pérez Quispe of Juntos por el Perú, Edwin Espinoza of the Partido del Buen Gobierno, Javier Cipriani of Renovación Popular, Heber López of the Partido Cívico Obras, and Harvey Colchado of Ahora Nación. The group's main task is to oversee deputies' conduct and ensure they meet the principles and duties required of their positions in Parliament.
Committee assignments across Congress
On August 5, the Chamber's Board of Spokespersons approved by majority vote the number of lawmakers assigned to each of the 16 ordinary legislative committees for 2026-2027. Seven committees will each have 26 members: Constitution, Regulation and Foreign Relations; State Management Modernization and Comptroller Affairs; Economy, Banking, Finance and Financial Intelligence; Education, Culture and Sport; Justice and Human Rights; Social Inclusion, Family, Women and Andean, Amazonian and Afro-Peruvian Peoples; and Infrastructure, Housing and Transport.
Nine other committees will have 20 members each, covering National Defense and Internal Order; Agrarian Development; Consumer Protection and Public Services Regulation; Energy and Mines; Production, Foreign Trade and Tourism; Environment and Sustainability; Health; Labor and Social Security; and Science, Technological Innovation and Digital Society.
The board also set membership for non-legislative ordinary committees. The Constitutional Accusations Committee will have 26 members, while the Legislative Ordering and Follow-up Committee will have 6 members, the same number as the Ethics Committee.
