Greece's Welfare Benefits and Social Solidarity Organisation announced that it will distribute 258,869,403 euros in September social assistance payments on Wednesday, 30 September 2026.
The total monthly distribution by the agency, known as OPEKA, will reach 1,008,093 beneficiaries across twenty distinct welfare programs nationwide.
Child benefits represent the single largest expenditure in the monthly rollout, with 70,584,787.15 euros allocated to 422,148 individual recipients. Disability allowances form the second largest category, providing 103,333,424.35 euros to 213,681 beneficiaries.
Housing support and income security programs also account for substantial portions of the total fund. OPEKA confirmed that 156,988 households will receive 18,612,869.37 euros in housing allowances, while birth benefits amounting to 11,703,200 euros will go to 8,907 recipients.
The agency detailed payments for the Minimum Guaranteed Income scheme, which serves two separate recipient groups. A total of 33,290,990.17 euros will go to 144,418 beneficiaries receiving payments via prepaid cards, while 582 recipients without prepaid cards will receive 136,268.82 euros.
Senior and family support allocations
Multiple programs managed by OPEKA target uninsured senior citizens and specific regional groups. The uninsured elderly pension under Law 1296/1982 will pay 4,481,123.83 euros to 11,376 individuals, alongside 10,159,176.43 euros in social solidarity allowances for 24,310 uninsured seniors.
Housing assistance for uninsured elderly citizens will provide 157,266.37 euros to 447 beneficiaries. In addition, 13,817 members of the ethnic Greek minority of Albania will receive 3,510,360.11 euros in social solidarity allowances for uninsured seniors.
Expatriate benefits will total 171,662.27 euros distributed among 4,823 recipients. Meanwhile, 653 foster care beneficiaries will receive 509,144.67 euros, and the Personal Assistant Programme will distribute 1,832,240.71 euros to 2,371 individuals.
Specialised relief and payment methods
Smaller targeted allocations include 250,638.91 euros for 3,038 beneficiaries under non performing loan support programs, 44,668.86 euros for 423 vulnerable debtors, and 49,919.80 euros covering funeral expenses for 63 individuals.
Special assistance includes 16,000 euros for 16 protected children of people who died in natural disasters, 8,861.60 euros for 10 victims of terrorist acts, 9,300 euros for 19 residents in mountainous and disadvantaged areas, and 7,500 euros for three participants in the Demographic Development Programme.
OPEKA reminded beneficiaries that several major benefits are disbursed exclusively through prepaid cards rather than direct bank transfers. These prepaid card distributions cover the Minimum Guaranteed Income scheme, birth allowances, and foster care support.
