Peruvian singer Naldy Saldaña has met face to face with former musical director César Sánchez Chavesta at a police station in Lima after accusing him of harassment and improper touching.
The 26-year-old former vocalist for the cumbia orchestra La Bella Luz and the 50-year-old musician were summoned by authorities to the Department of Criminal Investigation in San Juan de Lurigancho as part of an official investigation into her complaint.
During the legal proceeding, both parties spent two hours watching complete audiovisual footage submitted by the defense team of Sánchez Chavesta to support his account of events.
The recording, which previously caused widespread public outrage across Peru when images from the case first emerged, showed footage of both individuals together during their time in the band.
Police proceeding and video review
Following the session at the police department, Saldaña shared a message on her Instagram account reflecting on the emotional impact of rewatching the footage alongside her former manager.
Saldaña wrote that there are days when moving forward also means looking back at what caused so much pain. She stated that she had to rewatch things that broke her inside and confessed that she felt afraid during the proceeding.
The singer added that her body remembered experiences her heart wished to forget, admitting that for a moment she felt unable to go on as everything felt too close again.
Pledge to seek justice
Despite the painful moment at the police facility, Saldaña affirmed that she would not give up and would continue her search for justice.
She wrote that she was still standing, even if she was trembling and felt tired in her heart. She stated that although she did not feel strong, she knew that one day she would look back at the experience and understand it was also an act of courage.
The artist concluded by writing that being brave is not about having no fear, but about continuing even when fear attempts to stop you.
La Bella Luz is a well-known Peruvian cumbia orchestra, performing in a popular music genre characterized by large touring ensembles. The Department of Criminal Investigation, known locally as Depincri, functions as the specialized criminal investigation branch of the National Police of Peru, handling formal complaints and evidence reviews in districts such as San Juan de Lurigancho.
