A motorcyclist in his fifties died on Sunday, August 2, after leaving the road in the Corbieres mountains in the Aude department, according to L'Independant. The crash happened on the RD 3 departmental road near the town of Lagrasse while the rider was looking at his GPS navigation system.
The alert was raised at around 4 p.m. The man was riding alone and heading toward Carcassonne when he suddenly veered off his path and fell heavily, having glanced down at his GPS.
Emergency Response in the Corbieres
Given the severity of the situation, significant rescue resources were sent to the scene. Firefighters from the Lagrasse rescue center responded in a victim assistance and rescue vehicle, supported by a nurse from Lezignan. An emergency medical team from the Narbonne SMUR also traveled to the site.
Death During Transfer to Hospital
When medical teams arrived, the victim was seriously injured but still conscious. He was urgently evacuated toward the Carcassonne hospital, but died from his injuries during the transfer to the emergency department.
Gendarmes from the Lagrasse brigade community carried out the standard investigative procedures at the scene to establish the precise sequence of events. Initial checks confirmed that alcohol and drug tests came back negative.
Second Crash on Same Road
A related report noted a second accident on the same departmental road within less than twelve hours, in which another motorcyclist was severely injured and taken by medical transport to the emergency department of the Montauban hospital.
