The first 10 days of August in Moscow were among the warmest in 80 years, according to Moscow weather bureau chief specialist Tatyana Pozdnyakova on her Telegram channel.
Pozdnyakova said average daily air temperatures from August 1 to August 10 reached 21.8 degrees Celsius, which was 2.5 degrees above the climatic norm for the period. She noted that it was the fifth time in 80 years that temperatures reached that level during the first 10 days of the month, even though no single daily temperature record was broken.
The capital experienced its warmest first decade of August in 2010, when the average temperature reached 28.2 degrees Celsius. Pozdnyakova published a graph showing that maximum air temperatures exceeded 30 degrees Celsius twice between August 1 and August 10.
Low rainfall across the region
Pozdnyakova said rainfall was low during the 10-day period. VDNKh recorded 7.1 millimeters of precipitation, equal to 9 percent of the norm, while Tushino registered 15 millimeters, or 21 percent of the norm. Across the broader region, only Pavlovsky Posad received a third of the monthly norm, recording 23.4 millimeters of rain.
Earlier reports indicated that the preceding July was the hottest month for Russians since 1891.
