Madonna has taken a virtual tour of Angelina Jolie's $29.85 million mansion in Los Angeles as the singer considers a prospective property purchase and a return to the California city.
The music star expressed interest in viewing the estate following her 68th birthday celebrations in Greece. Because she was away from Los Angeles, real estate brokers arranged a video tour of the property for her, according to a report by the New York Post.
Madonna, who turned 68 this month, is an American pop singer, songwriter and cultural icon who has sold hundreds of millions of records worldwide. Jolie is an Academy Award winning American actress and filmmaker known for her starring roles in major Hollywood films and her international humanitarian work.
Virtual tour and celebrity enclave
A source stated that representatives for Madonna contacted real estate agents to arrange the tour. The source added that the property sits in a wonderful community located in the hills above Hollywood, which is home to numerous celebrity residents.
Jolie first placed the property on the market in May. A source said that the actress does not currently appear to be looking for another home to buy and added that she does not seem to know where she ultimately wants to live.
Local real estate brokers told the news outlet that Madonna's interest in the estate comes as no surprise. It has been a little over three years since Madonna sold her previous Los Angeles property in Hidden Hills for $23 million, having purchased that home in 2021 from Canadian R&B singer The Weeknd for $19.3 million.
The Weeknd, born Abel Tesfaye, is a chart-topping Canadian singer and record producer. Hidden Hills is a gated city and community located in Los Angeles County, California.
A real estate broker noted that Hollywood stars favor the quiet neighborhood because it is difficult to access and free of tour buses. The broker added that residents can use a discreet road to reach Sunset Boulevard without having to travel through Laurel Canyon.
Property history and DeMille heritage
The estate forms a significant chapter in Hollywood history, having belonged to legendary film director Cecil B. DeMille and his family for more than half a century. DeMille was a pioneering American filmmaker and producer who directed landmark silent and sound movies during the golden age of cinema.
DeMille purchased the original house in 1916. In 1920, he expanded the estate by buying the neighboring property where silent film icon Charlie Chaplin had once resided. The two residences were originally connected by a glass hallway, although they have since been restored to separate properties. The DeMille family maintained ownership of the estate until the late 1980s.
Jolie acquired the historic property in June 2017 for $24.5 million, approximately nine months after filing for divorce from actor Brad Pitt. In a past interview, Jolie stated that she intended to move away from Los Angeles once her children reached adulthood. Her youngest children, twins Knox and Vivienne, turned 18 last month.

At the center of the estate stands a 1913 Beaux-Arts mansion featuring a white stucco facade and a red tile roof, designed in an elegant and understated style. The residence is approached via a winding path leading to steps and an entrance flanked by imposing columns.
The main house contains five bedrooms. Interior features include a commercial-grade kitchen, a formal dining room paneled in mahogany, a large lower-level living room, arched windows, and a library.
The primary suite includes a marble fireplace, a sitting area, a spa-style bathroom, a dressing room, and a walk-in closet. The surrounding grounds feature a swimming pool, a guest house that can function as a studio, and a gated garage with security.
The entire property is surrounded by century-old trees and offers views looking across the Hollywood Hills toward the Griffith Observatory. The Griffith Observatory is an iconic Los Angeles landmark situated on the south-facing slope of Mount Hollywood.
Jolie and Madonna real estate holdings
Madonna currently maintains a diverse real estate portfolio across multiple locations. Her holdings include a Manhattan townhouse created by combining three separate residences, a horse farm in Bridgehampton, New York, and property in Portugal.
The Bridgehampton farm was previously owned by model Kelly Klein, the former wife of American fashion designer Calvin Klein. Manhattan is the central borough of New York City, known for its high-density residential architecture and luxury real estate.
Jolie has not announced any new real estate acquisitions following her decision to list the historic Los Angeles estate.
