Kuzbass Cardiologist Outlines Ways to Stay Safe in Heat

Chief cardiologist of Kuzbass Alexey Alekseenko advised people to avoid physical exertion and heavy food during hot weather in an interview with RIA Novosti.

Alekseenko, candidate of medical sciences and head of the organizational and methodological department at the Kuzbass Clinical Cardiology Dispensary named after Academician Barbarash, warned that high temperatures cause the body to lose fluid and minerals. He stated that this loss can lead to arrhythmia and increases the risk of falling blood pressure.

Dietary and lifestyle recommendations

To avoid health issues, Alekseenko advised staying indoors between 10:00 and 17:00 and eliminating physical exercise. He recommended covering the head with headwear, wearing sunglasses, and consuming two to three liters of non-carbonated, unsweetened fluid daily.

Regarding diet, the cardiologist urged eating less meat, legumes, complex carbohydrates, and fatty food while increasing the intake of vegetables and fruits. He also suggested reducing salt consumption and replacing mayonnaise with kefir or low-fat yogurt.

The advice follows reports that July was the hottest month for Russians since 1891.
