Kim Kardashian has been awarded a symbolic 1 euro, or about $1.15, in a civil case over her 2016 Paris robbery, in which she was held at gunpoint while more than $6 million worth of jewelry was stolen from her hotel room.
Kardashian's longtime friend Simone Harouche, who was staying one floor below her during the robbery, received the same symbolic amount in damages on September 15, according to the Associated Press. Both women had requested the token sum.
"We are grateful to the French justice system for recognizing us as victims of the terrible events that took place in Paris in 2016," Kardashian and Harouche said in a joint statement to E! News. "The experience was deeply traumatic, and its impact has stayed with us."
"Today's decision is not about the compensation, but about accountability and recognition," they continued. "We are thankful to the Court and everyone who supported us throughout this process, and we hope to now move forward and continue to heal."
Testimony from the criminal trial
Kardashian, 45, and Harouche, 46, both testified in a criminal trial last year that ended in the conviction of eight people over crimes connected to the robbery. Kardashian has said she initially believed the robbers were police officers when they burst into her room, recalling that she and her friends had been talking about terrorist attacks happening around the world at the time and did not immediately grasp that the men were after her jewelry, even though they specifically demanded her ring.
As the robbers bound and gagged her while searching for her $4 million engagement ring from her ex-husband, Kanye "Ye" West, Kardashian said she believed she was "gonna die." She said she was certain they were going to shoot her, so she said a prayer for her family, including her mother, sister and best friend. Kardashian shares four children with West: North, 13, Saint, 10, Chicago, 8, and Psalm, 7.
Harouche testified that she woke to the sound of Kardashian pleading for her life upstairs. "It was terror," said Harouche, a former stylist who locked herself in a bathroom to call the Kardashian family's bodyguard for help. "What I heard specifically was, 'I have babies and I need to live. Take everything, I need to live.'"
The court also awarded 50,000 euros, or about $57,741, to the hotel where the robbery took place, and 109,516 euros, or roughly $126,472, to a receptionist who had been working the night of the heist, according to the Associated Press.
Arrests, charges and years of proceedings
The robbery took place in the early hours of October 3, 2016, in Paris. French police arrested 17 suspects in January 2017. Kardashian later said on Keeping Up With the Kardashians that she never thought the robbers would be caught, and that learning how many people were involved gave her a new sense of safety.
Twelve people were ultimately charged, and 10 went on trial in May 2025. One suspect died in the years between the robbery and the trial, and another was deemed too ill to stand trial, ending in the conviction of eight people.
Kardashian has spoken about the ordeal for years
Kardashian largely stayed off social media in the months after the robbery before breaking her silence on Keeping Up With the Kardashians in March 2017, describing hearing pounding on the stairs, mistaking the intruders for police holding down the hotel concierge, and having her phone taken before being thrown on the bed. She has since discussed the attack in several interviews, including an April 2017 appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, where she said the experience changed her and made her less materialistic, and told DeGeneres she now travels with security after never having thought much about it before.
She returned to Paris for the first time since the robbery in June 2018, traveling with West to see designer Virgil Abloh's first show as artistic director of menswear at Louis Vuitton. On an October 2019 episode of Felony Files, she called the attack "the scariest thing" that had ever happened to her. In an October 2020 interview with David Letterman on My Next Guest Needs No Introduction, she gave a detailed account of being tied up with handcuffs, zip ties and duct tape, fearing she would be sexually assaulted, and thinking about her sister Kourtney finding her body.
Kardashian has also said the robbery kept her away from wearing jewelry for years afterward, telling The Kardashians in 2022 that a cross necklace gifted to her by designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, after she served as creative director of their Spring-Summer 2023 show, helped bring back a piece of her glamour.
