Greek singer Kelly Kelekidou has spoken publicly about her deep friendship with late model and fitness instructor Gogo Mastrokosta, reflecting on the impact Mastrokosta had on her life following her death earlier this year.
Speaking during an interview on the morning television broadcast Happy Day on Tuesday, October 6, Kelekidou revealed that Mastrokosta touched her profoundly, though she chose to keep specific details of their personal connection private.
Kelekidou explained that Mastrokosta was a person who had touched her very deeply inside, emphasizing that she wished to keep those personal memories to herself. She noted that the late model had significantly influenced her life, marked by a close bond that the two women shared prior to Mastrokosta's passing.
Managing Grief and Personal Loss
During the television appearance, the singer reflected more broadly on the emotional challenges she has encountered over the years and her approach to coping with bereavement.
Kelekidou stated that she has experienced numerous hardships throughout her life, which she explained were usually connected to the loss of loved ones. She acknowledged that there were many times when she broke down completely under the weight of grief.
The singer described her emotional recovery process, stating that even when she fell to the floor in tears and pain, she recognized her distress rather than hiding it. She explained that at the same time, she makes it a point to stand back up, wipe away her tears, and continue moving forward with her life.
Tributes Following Mastrokosta's Death
Gogo Mastrokosta died on May 25 at the age of 56. Her passing was publicly announced by her daughter, Victoria Della.
Following Mastrokosta's funeral on May 27, Kelekidou shared a tribute on social media on May 28 to honor her late friend. The post featured photos capturing shared moments between the two throughout their friendship.
The post featured audio of Kelekidou performing song lyrics composed by Giorgos Moukidis. In the recording, she sang asking where her good angel was going, pleading with her friend not to move far away, and expressing sadness over being unable to fully comprehend all that her friend had become, thought, felt, and loved.
Victoria Della also posted a tribute to her mother three weeks after her death on June 17, referencing the same song title in memory of Mastrokosta.
Kelekidou's recent comments mark one of the few times the singer has spoken publicly about her grief in the months following Mastrokosta's death.
