Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is considering buying a stake in English football club Liverpool as part of an investor consortium, according to a report by British newspaper The Guardian.
The investor group is seeking to purchase at least 30 percent of the club's shares. The potential transaction values the 30 percent stake at 1.35 billion pounds, which is equivalent to approximately 1.8 billion dollars.
Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin, the billionaire entrepreneur, is participating in the negotiations alongside Bezos and other investors. If an agreement is finalized, the deal will mark the first investment by Bezos in professional sports, although the Amazon creator has previously been linked with interest in sports franchises in the United States.
Valuation and Growing American Ownership
Liverpool Football Club, based in North West England, is recognized as one of the most successful and widely followed football clubs in global sports. According to estimates by business publication Forbes, the Premier League team carries an overall market valuation of around 6 billion dollars.
The potential deal comes amid a broader surge of transatlantic investment into top-flight English football. According to British broadcaster Sky Sports, American investors already hold ownership stakes in 13 of the 20 clubs currently competing in the English Premier League.
A growing list of American celebrities and sports figures have acquired stakes in football teams. These include Hollywood actor Ryan Reynolds, seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady, actor Will Ferrell, and National Basketball Association star Russell Westbrook.
Previous Bids and Space Industry Proposals
Bezos is not the first tech billionaire linked to Liverpool. In 2025, reports emerged that Tesla and SpaceX chief executive Elon Musk wanted to buy Liverpool Football Club, a plan subsequently confirmed by his father, Errol Musk.
The news of the potential sports investment follows another major public statement by Bezos. The Amazon founder recently proposed moving heavy industrial manufacturing off Earth and onto the Moon in an effort to protect the terrestrial environment.
