Peruvian food critic Javier Masías has revealed how he lost 56 kilos in one year, reducing his weight from 140 to 84 kilos through a daily physical routine and dietary changes. The television judge showcased his physical transformation on the red carpet at the premiere of the film Mañana me caso this week.
Masías, who is widely known for his role as a strict judge on the Peruvian culinary reality television show El Gran Chef Famosos, shared details of his transformation on social media with his characteristic sense of humor. He joked about his progress by noting that he had removed a Bruno Pinasco off his shoulders, referencing a conversation where the popular Peruvian television host had revealed his own body weight.
The food critic outlined his weight loss progression in two distinct stages over recent months. Speaking on the digital show Yaco y el Loco in May, Masías revealed that he had initially brought his weight down from 140 kilos to 94 kilos. Three months later, his total weight loss reached 56 kilos, bringing his current weight to approximately 84 kilos.
Daily exercise routine and physical activities
Behind the physical change is a daily commitment to about two hours of physical activity. Masías incorporated a varied selection of movement disciplines into his routine, combining dance classes, ballet, reggaeton, and yoga.
Despite the significant time commitment, Masías explained that he avoids viewing his regime as an extreme workout plan or high performance athletic training. Instead, he described finding genuine enjoyment in these disciplines, allowing them to gradually become a natural part of his daily schedule. He emphasized that consistency and the progressive adoption of new habits were the key factors in sustaining his progress.
In one of his social media posts, Masías summarized his philosophy toward physical fitness by writing that movement is life rather than a penance. He emphasized that exercise should be approached from a positive perspective as part of personal care rather than as an exhausting obligation or punishment.
Dietary structure and hydration balance
Nutrition played a central role alongside physical activity in achieving his results. Masías explained on social media that his goal was not to completely eliminate his favorite dishes or rely on quick fixes, but rather to establish a new structure for his meals.
Traditional Peruvian cuisine remains part of his diet, including lomo saltado, a popular dish of stir-fried beef, onions, and tomatoes served with rice and French fries. However, Masías reorganized his daily eating habits by prioritizing protein and vegetables at every meal.
In addition to structured meals, proper hydration and adequate rest form essential pillars of his health strategy. Masías maintains a specific daily hydration target, drinking 35 milliliters of water per kilo of body weight each day. He noted that regular sleep and proper rest are fundamental elements required to sustain physical changes and protect overall well-being.
Long-term mindset and lifestyle change
Reflecting on his journey, Masías stressed that losing weight is not merely a temporary diet for a set period, but the beginning of a broader personal transformation tied to how one lives. From his perspective, the primary challenge extends beyond shedding kilos to reclaiming years that were not lived as desired.
He cautioned his followers against seeking shortcuts or quick solutions, warning that no fast fixes can substitute for discipline and consistency. Through his messages, Masías has urged people to view personal health as a comprehensive, long-term process centered on building a healthier relationship with oneself.
