The president of the Huelva Provincial Council, David Toscano, said the province is at a decisive moment for its future, driven by green hydrogen, tourism, red fruits, industry, and mining, and that the priority now is to lay the foundations to take advantage of it.
Toscano made the remarks in an interview with Europa Press, saying that the development expectations long projected for the territory were already becoming reality. He added that what the province now needed was to put the right bases in place to capitalise on that momentum.
To consolidate that outlook, Toscano called for investment in necessary infrastructure, preparation of young people for emerging job opportunities, and making it as easy as possible for any company showing interest in investing in Huelva to do so.
He said the province wanted the benefits of incoming projects to spread across the whole territory, not concentrate only in large industrial zones. He drew a distinction between green hydrogen activity in the south of the province and mining in the centre and north.
As a concrete step, Toscano highlighted the recent publication of a guide produced with the Chamber of Commerce that maps all industrial estates in the province. He said green hydrogen was not only about production but also about the auxiliary businesses that would follow, and that the guide allowed investors to know precisely the availability of industrial land and access to water and electricity supplies.
On workforce readiness, Toscano said it would be absurd to have a large volume of high-quality jobs and then have people come from outside to fill them because of a lack of local skills. He said the provincial council was working with the Junta de Andalucia and the business community on training.
He also said the province intended to replicate in Huelva the model of the Santa Barbara Foundation, based in Leon, describing it as a reference centre that provincial government members had visited after learning it was already hosting students from Huelva. He said the goal of all these initiatives was to achieve genuine equality of opportunity for citizens across the province, regardless of where they lived or their circumstances.
