Film director Anton Maslov and an independent testing laboratory have evaluated the HONOR MagicPad 4 flagship tablet, giving top marks to its screen quality and sound performance, according to the HONOR press service.
Maslov is known for directing the television series Vampires of the Mid-Band and The Last Warrior: Heritage, as well as the feature films The Last Warrior: Kolobok, Poyekhavshaya, Hello to Husband, and Multistorey Building.
During testing, Maslov watched his movie Poyekhavshaya on the HONOR MagicPad 4. He stated that the tablet's color rendering was as close as possible to the image his team used during professional color correction for the film. He highlighted the ability to manually adjust color display parameters, including options for an expanded DCI-P3 color gamut or a stricter sRGB palette. Maslov said that users who prefer a viewing experience closer to a theatrical picture can select a softer version in the settings, adding that filmmakers can set up and approve color grading on the tablet because the color rendering is highly accurate. He noted that movie production must account for the various devices on which content is played, as large cinema screens and compact tablet displays place different demands on picture and sound.
Display specifications and lab testing
The HONOR MagicPad 4 features a 12.3-inch OLED display with a resolution of 3000 by 1920 pixels, a 165 Hz refresh rate, and a peak HDR brightness of 2400 nits. In an independent study comparing the device against the Apple iPad Air 11 and Samsung Galaxy Tab S11, experts awarded first place to the screen of the HONOR tablet.
The testing laboratory highlighted the screen's high brightness, lack of noticeable flicker, accurate color rendering, high-quality oleophobic coating, and support for high refresh rates.
Sound quality test results
Specialists also evaluated the audio output of all three tablets in a measurement chamber designed to minimize reflected sound. Each device was tested in horizontal orientation with side-mounted speakers and a microphone placed 50 cm away.
The MagicPad 4 and Galaxy Tab S11 both recorded a sound pressure level of 72 dBA, while the iPad Air was 5 dB quieter. The HONOR tablet demonstrated the most even balance between mid and high frequency ranges, showing a clear advantage in the 500 to 900 Hz range for mid-range audio reproduction. The device includes eight speakers supporting HONOR Spatial Audio and IMAX Enhanced surround sound.
