A group of teenagers attacked a young woman named Angelina, who is an orphan, in a park in Ishimbay, a town in the Russian republic of Bashkortostan. She described the incident in an interview with the regional news portal Ufa1.ru.
Angelina said the assault happened in Gagarin Park, where she had been sitting on a bench with a friend when a crowd of teenagers approached the pair. She said the teenagers struck her in the face and on the head and also pulled out clumps of her hair. Angelina did not say what had provoked the attack or how many teenagers were involved.
'I have no one to protect me'
Speaking to Ufa1.ru, Angelina said she had no one to protect her, explaining that she is an orphan and that her only relative, her grandmother, is disabled. She said she feared for her life and wanted to return to Moscow, where she used to live, but had nowhere to stay if she went back. She said she was left with a severe headache after the beating and had no words or emotions to describe what had happened, calling the group that attacked her a mob of wild teenagers.
Bashkortostan and Ishimbay
Bashkortostan is a republic within Russia, located in the Ural region with Ufa as its capital city. Ishimbay, the town where the attack took place, lies south of Ufa and is known as a centre of the republic's oil industry. Ufa1.ru is a regional news outlet that covers Bashkortostan and its capital.
Attackers fled before police arrived
According to Angelina, the teenagers fled the park before officers arrived. Witnesses who saw the beating had called the police after the group ran off. She later went to hospital, where her injuries were recorded and documented. Angelina said she subsequently learned that one of the girls who had taken part in the attack was 16 years old.
Separate incident reported this month
Ufa1.ru also reported that earlier in September, a schoolboy in Russia was filmed beating a classmate and threatening the boy's sister on camera, in an unrelated case covered by the outlet around the same time.
