Local officials in Foix have dismissed rumors that the shuttered Chez Marcel bistro will be replaced by a massage parlor following its manager's retirement.
The Agglomération Foix-Varilhes confirmed that no spa or massage business will open at the site, which remains closed while awaiting a buyer.
Tables have been cleared from the terrace and metal shutters have remained drawn for several weeks at the establishment on Rue du Sénateur-Paul-Laffont.

Foix, the administrative capital of the Ariège department in southwestern France, relies heavily on local commerce in its historic town center. The eatery had served as a regular gathering spot for local residents before its manager decided to retire.
Chalkboard message sparks local rumor
Speculation about the future of the venue mounted in recent days after a handwritten message appeared on a chalkboard hung next to the front window. The inscription stated that the bistro was permanently closed and announced that a massage salon would open on the premises soon.
The notice caught local patrons by surprise and prompted inquiries with business representatives. Josiane Gouze-Fauré, president of the Ariège Chamber of Commerce and Industry, expressed astonishment upon learning of the chalkboard message.
Gouze-Fauré had previously noted during a commerce briefing in early July that the prolonged closure was caused by the owner's retirement. She explained at the time that finding a suitable buyer to take over a commercial location requires time.
Economic development office clarifies future
Economic authorities have since clarified that the inscription does not reflect any official business plans for the property. Marika Repond, director of the economic development department at the Agglomération Foix-Varilhes, confirmed that no massage parlor would be opening in place of Chez Marcel.
Repond said the writing on the chalkboard was likely a joke made either by the building owner or by an unidentified individual. She added that the property remains listed for takeover as local officials hold out hope that a new buyer will eventually reopen the bistro and bring life back to its outdoor terrace.
