Moscow's Meshchansky Court sentenced Igor Chernikov, the former head of Kazansky Railway Station, to eight and a half years in prison for corruption. Interfax reported the ruling, citing the press service of the Moscow City Court.
Chernikov was also fined 6.5 million rubles. After the verdict was read, a Federal Penitentiary Service officer removed the electronic bracelet from his leg, and a guard placed him in handcuffs. His defense team expressed dissatisfaction with the sentence, according to Kommersant.
Bribery charges and confiscated funds
Chernikov was found guilty of taking a bribe. The court ordered the confiscation of 1.3 million rubles he had received as payment. Once he completes his sentence, he will be barred from holding positions in state and municipal bodies for 10 years.
According to prosecutors, between December 2023 and September 2024, Chernikov extorted money from a businessman through an intermediary in exchange for general protection of commercial activities at the station.
Chernikov partially admitted guilt. Moscow's Dorogomilovsky District Court had placed him under house arrest at the start of summer 2025.
