Ecuador's Secretariat of Risk Management reported that six homes were damaged by cracks and falling masonry after a magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck Colombia on Monday and was felt across several Ecuadorian provinces.
The agency said six families suffered minor damage to their homes, and officials were assessing their needs. A building in downtown Guayaquil was also affected after part of its masonry gave way. The secretariat said the building, located in the city center, is possibly abandoned.
Damage by province
One incident was reported in each of three provinces: Carchi, Esmeraldas and Guayas.
In Carchi's Tulcan area, in the El Capote community, three homes showed cracked walls, though residents were unharmed and remained in their houses. Local risk management officials in Tulcan were preparing a damage report while the national secretariat continued monitoring.
In Esmeraldas, in San Lorenzo's Alto Tambo sector, at El Cristal, three homes also showed wall cracks, with residents reported safe and staying in their homes as local officials gathered information.
Guayaquil cleanup
In Guayaquil's Rocafuerte area, near Velez 416 and Escobedo, the Civil Protection Volunteer Corps said the Guayaquil Fire Department carried out cleanup work after masonry fell from a downtown building onto the sidewalk.
