Criteria divided into pricing of diesel and extra gasoline and eco-country in Ecuador

The gasoline dispatch was normal on the first day with the new price; citizens were in favor and against the measure.

Every Saturday Pablo Uquillas fills the tank of his Chery Tiggo in Guayaquil. And he had to do it on the first day with the new prices for diesel and extra gasoline and eco-country that President Guillermo Lasso set by executive decree and also suspended the application of the band system that regulated the gradual rise in prices.

Uquillas filled the tank of his vehicle with ecopaís and spent $ 28. He assures that the decision should have been made months ago. “A long time ago it should have been frozen, not expecting threats of a strike,” he said while waiting to be treated at a Primax located on 25 de Julio Avenue, in the south of Guayaquil.

Andy Nunez He is not satisfied with the measure, but hopes that it will be final. He says he goes out of his way to get his vehicle filled with nine gallons a week. He also uses eco-country.

During a tour of gas stations carried out by this newspaper, the normal dispatch of fuel was observed. All the stations had the new values posted: extra gasoline and ecopaís at $ 2.55, before it was at $ 2.50 a gallon; and diesel increased by $ 0.21, reaching $ 1.90.

The Executive’s decision last Friday took place in the midst of an unstable political environment, due to the risk that the dialogue with the carriers would be broken and that it was focused on obtaining an agreement to target the subsidies.

Lasso justified his decision by stating that he seeks to “provide stability to the pockets of Ecuadorians, executing actions that continue with the reactivation and job creation, especially for the poorest ”.

Guillermo Lasso announces suspension of monthly increases in fuel prices

Miguel Tobar is more concerned about the impact of the increase and fixation of diesel. It states that the consumer will be affected. “You will see that the prices of legumes will rise, because when fuel rises that happens,” he says.

That is why he believes it is necessary that the Government should focus on balancing the basic salary. “The Government wants to put us at an international level, but the salaries are not,” says the citizen who filled up his express with diesel at a gas station in the Centenario neighborhood.

Miguel Calderón agrees with this, who was tanking his vehicle at the Mobil located on Córdova and Loja streets. “It seems to me that it is a desperate measure and can have worse consequences,” he says.

On Friday night, executive decrees 230 were published, which reform the Regulation for the Regulation of Prices of Petroleum Derivatives, issued in July 2005; and 231, which refers to the “exceptionality of fuel prices.”

The first adds a seventh general provision by which it is determined that the President of the Republic “may establish, exceptionally, fixed prices for petroleum-derived fuels.”

To do so, it argues the exceptional situations established by article 286 of the Constitution for application by executive decree, after a technical report from the Ministry of Energy and Non-Renewable Natural Resources and the favorable opinion of the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

Starting at 00:00 this Saturday, October 23, the new fuel prices will govern, after the suspension of monthly increases

In the recitals of said document, it is mentioned that the Ministry of Energy sent Carondelet the reform proposal to the regulation of price regulation and the reports that support it, as well as the favorable opinion of the Finance portfolio.

It is added that, for “the reactivation of the economy and the creation of jobs, it is necessary to provide stability to all sectors of the country.”

Meanwhile, Decree 231, which suspends the application of the Fuel Price Band System, incorporates a subsection stating that the measure may “be reviewed according to the economic situation and public finances, in accordance with with current regulations ”.

Javier Cedeño believes that the measure is correct and that it would give peace of mind to certain sectors, but does not see it lasting. He tanks his Soueast DX3 every week, previously he was spending $ 18 and now $ 22.

“I did a quick exercise of how much I was going to spend, I made the decision to use eco-country, which is detrimental in the sense that it is not a good quality gasoline and that is where the Government should aim to improve the quality before the increase”, mentions. (I)
