Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in India on Friday, September 11, traveling into New Delhi in an Aurus limousine for a three-day working visit.
The Russian head of state landed on an official presidential plane at the Indian Air Force base Palam before departing the airfield into the city in his Aurus, according to state news agency RIA Novosti.
The Aurus Senat is a high-end luxury limousine produced in Russia by NAMI, the Central Scientific Research Automobile and Automotive Engines Institute in Moscow. The motor company developed the presidential vehicle series to provide secure official state transportation for Russian government leaders during domestic travel and international summits abroad.
BRICS summit schedule
Putin traveled to India to take part in the events of the annual BRICS summit, which runs from September 11 to September 13. Russian officials confirmed that the president will hold a series of international contacts and bilateral diplomatic meetings on the sidelines of the summit throughout the three-day gathering.
BRICS is an intergovernmental organization established by major emerging economies including Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa to strengthen geopolitical and economic cooperation. India is hosting the multi-day diplomatic conference in New Delhi, bringing together international leaders to discuss trade, finance, and regional security initiatives.
Preparations and arrival details
Logistical preparations for the Russian presidential visit began before Putin landed on Friday morning. Three Russian military transport aircraft arrived at the Indian airport Noida on the morning of September 10, bringing essential support equipment and advance delegation personnel ahead of the summit.
Palam Air Force Base, operated by the Indian Air Force near the capital, serves as the standard arrival point for visiting heads of state. Following his arrival in New Delhi, Putin will carry out his scheduled international engagements before completing his three-day working visit on September 13.
