Donald Trump Says Strait of Hormuz Could Reopen Soon

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Thursday, Aug. 6, that the Strait of Hormuz could reopen soon. Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump stated that discussions regarding the waterway were going very well and that he was personally involved in negotiations.

Tehran has locked the crucial maritime passage since the start of the war against Iran, placing it at the center of tensions with the United States. Iran stated on Wednesday that it agreed with the Sultanate of Oman on a new transit route through the strait, which both countries border.

Iranian sources told local media that any reopening of the waterway will depend on Washington. The United States has imposed a blockade on Iranian ports.
