American actor Christopher McDonald said on Monday he was backing his "Hacks" co-star Jean Smart to break an Emmy record and win best actress in a comedy series once again.
McDonald spoke to the EFE news agency on the red carpet at the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards, held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, California.

He said Smart was incredible as a person, as an actress and as a human being, and that she was about to bring the award home. He said he believed she would break the record and that he was praying for it too, adding that no one can ever be sure because it is Hollywood, but that she is incredible.
What the record would mean
If she wins, Smart would become the first female performer to win a best actress award for every season of the comedy series "Hacks."
The Emmy Awards are television's top honors in the United States, handed out annually to recognize achievement across the industry. "Hacks" follows a veteran Las Vegas comedian who forms an uneasy partnership with a young writer, and Smart has been nominated in the lead comedy actress category in previous years for her role in the show.
A close friendship
McDonald also spoke about his friendship with Smart, saying she had always supported him, and that when she had problems, he supported her in turn, calling it a wonderful relationship.
He said saying goodbye to "Hacks" after five seasons felt like saying goodbye to a dear friend, since it had been five and a half years of their lives, and that he would miss the cast, adding that he already missed them.
A cast reunion
For McDonald, the Emmy ceremony also served as an opportunity for the whole "Hacks" cast to come together again. He said it was great to have a night like that one where they were nominated together so they could hang out and be friends, and that they get together from time to time for things like picnics, which he described as family.
He said the sad part was knowing they had done good work and that the show deserved to win, adding that he was praying that it would.
