The Municipality of Athens is launching intensive inspections to clear public spaces by targeting businesses that illegally occupy sidewalks and squares.

Municipal authorities released summary figures from recent operations conducted by the Municipal Police. According to a city announcement, inspections are taking place in central areas of the capital to protect public space, maintain legality, and ensure safe and unhindered movement for residents and visitors.

Seized Items and Operations

During 13 operational actions, officers removed more than 240 objects that illegally occupied common spaces and blocked passage for pedestrians and people with disabilities.

The items removed from food service and commercial businesses included 155 chairs, 55 tables, four sofas, stools, sunshades, and merchandise display equipment such as stands, mannequins, shelving units, and counters.
