The new desktop lineup introduces models built on Apple's latest M6, M5 Pro, M5 Max and M5 Ultra silicon chips. The company stated that the updated hardware delivers a significant gain in overall performance, particularly when handling artificial intelligence operations.

The Mac mini desktop nettop computers are available with either the M6 or the M5 Pro processor. Models powered by the M6 chip can be configured with up to 32 gigabytes of random access memory and storage capacities reaching 2 terabytes. The higher specification M5 Pro variant supports up to 64 gigabytes of memory and 8 terabytes of built-in storage.

Pricing for the entry-level Mac mini begins at 899 dollars, reported by the outlet as equivalent to 76,000 rubles.

Mac Studio performance and M5 Ultra chip

Apple also introduced updated Mac Studio desktop computers powered by the M5 Max and M5 Ultra processors. The company described the M5 Ultra chip as the most powerful processor in its hardware lineup.

The Mac Studio features a next-generation solid state drive architecture based on PCIe Gen 6 technology. Apple stated that this storage architecture operates twice as fast as the previous generation.

Configurations of the Mac Studio featuring the M5 Ultra chip support up to 512 gigabytes of RAM. Models equipped with the M5 Max processor support up to 128 gigabytes of RAM.

Prices for the base Mac Studio start at 2,499 dollars, or 212,000 rubles. Apple also listed a new version of its computer cleaning cloth on its website for nine dollars, or 800 rubles.

Hardware background and division layoffs

Apple Inc. is an American technology company headquartered in Cupertino, California, that designs personal computers and consumer electronics. The Mac mini serves as its compact desktop option, while the Mac Studio is a higher-end workstation aimed at professional users.

The hardware announcements follow reports at the end of August by tech news website Appleinsider that Apple eliminated dozens of jobs in its augmented and virtual reality division. That team had previously developed the Vision Pro headset, which failed to achieve commercial success.
