WhatsApp has launched three new features designed to streamline group conversations for its global user base, according to an update published by the messaging service on August 4, 2026.
The update introduces a single command to notify every member of a group chat at once, a simplified tool for starting branch conversations using existing group members, and enhanced controls for in-chat polls.
WhatsApp was launched in 2009 and has established itself as one of the most widely used instant messaging platforms in the world. The service currently boasts more than three billion monthly active users globally and regularly deploys software updates to adapt to changing user needs.
Group chats are a central feature of modern messaging platforms, enabling family members, work teams and social circles to communicate within shared discussion threads. To manage high message volumes, many users rely on mute settings, which silence notifications for incoming messages while keeping the user inside the group.
All-member notification command
The first major tool unveiled in the update is the @everyone mention command. The feature allows a user to alert all participants in a group chat simultaneously using a single command, even if individual members have muted the group.
In its announcement statement, WhatsApp explained that the command eliminates the need to tag members individually and prevents important messages from getting lost in active group threads. The platform recommended using the mention to inform members of urgent updates.
The company noted that users who do not wish to receive these alerts can turn off notifications linked to the @everyone mention within their application settings.
Simplified group creation and polls
WhatsApp has also updated its conversation setup tools to streamline how users launch new groups. The new system allows users to create a new discussion thread using members from an existing group chat without having to select and add each person individually.
WhatsApp stated that the feature provides an ideal method for creating a side conversation to organize surprise parties, coordinate event logistics, or discuss specific topics in depth without cluttering the main group chat.
The third major feature enhances group polls, which are interactive voting tools used to make collective decisions within chats. Under the new update, group administrators can set a closing date and time to automatically stop voting.
Additionally, users can now edit polls up to 15 minutes after publishing them. WhatsApp noted that this window allows creators to fix errors or rephrase questions without having to delete the original poll and build a new one.
Recent feature rollouts
The new group tools follow a series of recent updates developed by WhatsApp to enhance user privacy and communication functionality. Previous additions include strict account security settings, call scheduling tools, notification messages for missed calls, message translation, and features designed to eliminate background noise during calls.
