Anthropic has updated its artificial intelligence chatbot Claude to allow it to reply to emails in Gmail on behalf of users. The chatbot can locate a specific email thread, draft a response, and send the message independently, according to the company.
By default, Claude asks users for confirmation before sending any message. However, users can turn off the confirmation prompt if they want the bot to automatically send simple replies without manual review.
To use the feature, users must connect both Gmail and Google Drive to Claude through Google Workspace. In addition to managing electronic mail, the chatbot can also work directly with files stored in Google Drive.
Access rules and third-party connectors
The email functionality is available exclusively to subscribers on paid Claude plans. The tool operates through connectors that provide the chatbot with direct access to third-party services.
Supported third-party platforms include Gmail, Google Drive, Slack, Canva, Notion, and Microsoft 365. Google Workspace provides cloud computing and office productivity tools, while platforms such as Slack, Canva, Notion, and Microsoft 365 are workplace software applications used for corporate communications, design, documentation, and administrative work.
Corporate revenue and IPO plans
The product update comes after Anthropic increased its annual revenue sevenfold ahead of a planned initial public offering. Investors expect the company's potential stock market debut to surpass the record set in June by Elon Musk's space exploration company SpaceX, according to the Financial Times.
An initial public offering allows a private firm to sell shares to the public on a stock exchange, raising capital from institutional and retail investors.
Anthropic was founded in 2021 by former OpenAI employees led by brother and sister Dario Amodei and Daniela Amodei. The business is currently the most valuable artificial intelligence company in the world, having reached a valuation of $852 billion in March.
Pentagon threat rating and military limits
In March 2026, the United States Department of Defense officially designated Anthropic as a supply chain threat. The Pentagon classification followed the company's refusal to remove safety restrictions on the military use of its Claude artificial intelligence technology.
