Anna Vissi, Angela Dimitriou and Elli Kokkinou were among the Greek singers and actors who attended a public wake for Giorgos Mazonakis on Sunday, September 13, held one day before the singer's funeral.
The wake took place at the Holy Church of Agia Triada in Nikaia, the neighbourhood where Mazonakis grew up. Crowds began gathering from early in the afternoon, with fans travelling from various cities and regions of Greece by coach to honour his memory. The wake began after 8pm and continued into the early hours of Monday morning.

Fellow performers pay tribute
Several artists with close personal ties to Mazonakis attended, including performers who had shared the stage with him in the past and remained his friends until his death. Anna Vissi was among them, as was Panos Mouzourakis, who had worked alongside Mazonakis on the television show The Voice over the past two years.
Angela Dimitriou attended together with her daughter, Olga Kiourtsaki. Elli Kokkinou, who had recorded the song "Gucci ton Masai" with Mazonakis, was also present, along with Lakis Lazopoulos, Petros Iakovidis, Giorgos Sabanis and Zeta Douka.
Writers and actresses among mourners
Author Christos Chomenidis, actress Sasa Stamati, and Vasiliki Roussou and Elena Christopoulou also stood by the singer's family during the wake.



Who was Giorgos Mazonakis
Giorgos Mazonakis was one of Greece's best known laiko and pop singers, with a career spanning several decades and a string of hit records. In recent years he had also become a familiar face on Greek television as a coach on The Voice.
Funeral arrangements
Mazonakis died at the age of 54 on Wednesday, September 9. His funeral is due to be held at 1pm at the Holy Church of Agia Triada, the same church where the wake took place. Burial will follow at the Third Cemetery, in a close family circle.
