The United States has used up to 80 percent of its missiles for the THAAD missile defense system during its conflict with Iran, CNN reported. THAAD is designed for high-altitude, exo-atmospheric interception of ballistic missiles.
Sources told the network that senior military command has warned of a dangerously low supply of munitions at the Pentagon. Analysts cited by CNN described the pace of replenishing losses as extremely low, saying the Pentagon is receiving only about 15 Tomahawk missiles and 20 PAC-3 MSE interceptors per month.
Other missile stockpiles depleted
Earlier reports said the United States had used up nearly its entire stockpile of long-range precision ATACMS missiles over five months of conflict with Iran, along with a significant portion of its newer Precision Strike Missiles. Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said the American military remains the most powerful in the world and has everything it needs to carry out its missions.
