Donald Trump launched a fresh attack on Iran's leadership, accusing Tehran of being "incredibly two-faced" in its contacts with Washington.
In a post, the US president said the Iranian side is asking for a meeting, adding that some might call it begging, while publicly claiming it is not negotiating with the United States and says it is speaking only with Oman.
Strait of Hormuz dispute
Trump also disputed Tehran's claims that it controls the Strait of Hormuz, arguing that shipping in the region is under the full control of the US Navy. He said nothing can reach Iran without US approval, and that this will continue until an agreement is reached or, as he put it, "total surrender."
Trump said the talks are aimed at resolving a problem that, in his view, Iran's leadership has created over decades.
Nuclear program warning
Closing his post, Trump repeated Washington's longstanding position on Tehran's nuclear program, stating that Iran will never have a nuclear weapon.
