Most European stock markets rose at the start of the week after news that Washington was suspending military operations against Iran to allow room for diplomacy lifted investor sentiment.
The pan-European Stoxx 600 index climbed 0.45% to 652.09 points as oil prices fell sharply. Germany's DAX gained 1.45% to 26,001 points and France's CAC 40 added 1.22%, while Britain's FTSE 100 slipped 0.1%. Italy's FTSE MIB rose 1.34% and Spain's IBEX 35 gained 1.01%.
Trump announces new talks
US President Donald Trump said on Sunday that new negotiations with Iran would begin Monday, after earlier announcing he had postponed a joint US-Israeli attack on the Islamic Republic. He did not specify where the talks would take place, how long they would last, or who would take part, and neither Tehran nor mediating countries confirmed the talks.
Trump said there was an agreement on the Strait of Hormuz and that one would also be reached on Iran's denuclearization, adding that the US military remained ready to act whenever ordered.
