United States Representative Anna Paulina Luna has confirmed that plans for a delegation of American lawmakers to visit Moscow remain active, according to a report published by Russian news agency RIA Novosti on Friday, September 11, 2026.
Addressing the status of the proposed mission, Luna stated that while legislators in the United States are currently focused on upcoming elections, the planned visit to Russia by American congressional members has not changed.
The lawmaker had previously reported that the delegation of American legislators plans to travel to Russia during the autumn or winter. The planned trip follows an earlier diplomatic exchange in March, when a delegation from the Russian State Duma visited Washington and held meetings with American lawmakers, including Luna.
Legislative Engagement Between Washington and Moscow
Luna serves as a member of the United States House of Representatives, representing Florida's 13th congressional district. The House of Representatives is the lower chamber of the United States Congress, which functions as the federal legislative branch in Washington, D.C.
The State Duma operates as the lower house of the Federal Assembly of Russia, headquartered in the capital city of Moscow. Bilateral visits between members of the United States Congress and the Russian parliament provide a platform for direct communication between lawmakers from both nations.
High-Level Diplomatic Contacts Concerning Ukraine
The news regarding congressional travel follows recent high-level talks in Moscow involving senior officials. Yuri Ushakov, the assistant to the President of Russia for international affairs, stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin recently held discussions in Moscow with American representatives Steven Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
According to Ushakov, the talks between Putin, Witkoff, and Kushner centered on examining options for resuming trilateral contacts concerning Ukraine. Ushakov emphasized that the negotiations with the American special envoys were not only constructive, but also carried a substantive and businesslike character.
Following their discussions in Moscow, Witkoff and Kushner arrived in Kyiv on September 6 to conduct talks with Ukrainian government officials. Kyiv is the capital and largest city of Ukraine, which remains at the center of international diplomatic efforts.
RIA Novosti, which carried Luna's comments, is a primary state-owned news agency in Russia. Specific dates for the upcoming visit by the delegation of American lawmakers, as well as the exact list of participating congressmen, have not yet been announced.
