Ukrzaliznytsia, Ukraine's state railway operator, has launched an additional express Intercity train running between Kyiv and Lutsk, the company's press service announced on September 11.
The new service, numbered 755/756, will stop in Fastiv, Berdychiv, Shepetivka, Zdolbuniv and Rivne along the route.
According to the announcement, the train will run from Friday to Sunday on September 18-20 and September 25-27, allowing passengers to travel from Kyiv to the Volyn region and back over the weekend.
Schedule details
The train will depart Kyiv at 7:26 and arrive in Lutsk at 13:00. On the return leg, it will leave Lutsk at 16:17 and reach Kyiv at 21:41.
Ukrzaliznytsia is Ukraine's national railway company and has served as one of the country's main means of long-distance transport since Russia's full-scale invasion closed Ukrainian airspace to commercial flights. The company also plays a central role in moving evacuees, humanitarian aid and export cargo.
Recent attacks on rail services
The new train announcement comes days after Russian forces attacked Ukrzaliznytsia trains three times on September 8. A drone strike hit the Kyiv-Sumy train, though no one was injured in that attack.
A suburban diesel train in the Sumy region was also struck, and passengers on board suffered shrapnel wounds. A separate attack on a regional train running between Dnipro and Zaporizhzhia killed a conductor.
Russia has been striking not only railway infrastructure but also Ukrzaliznytsia's rolling stock directly, according to the report.
Locomotive shortage
On May 7, Oleksii Kuleba, who was then Ukraine's deputy prime minister, said Ukrzaliznytsia needed around 100 freight and passenger electric locomotives to maintain stable logistics, exports, and passenger and evacuation transport.
The company recently ordered 10 next-generation passenger carriages worth 1 billion hryvnias, as it works to expand and modernize its fleet despite the ongoing wartime pressures on its network.
